On The iPod

tv ipod video
Boston Legal on the iPod.

On a more positive and less intelligent note, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. I got my iPod in Black, very pimp. I’m working on sending the first season of Boston Legal to it right now. I’ve already got 400 songs, and 35 photos on it. People I’ve dealt with in my life and would HATE to lose or forget. Even some of you that still read this everyday, but think you’ve evaporated from my life. Beware, you are everpresent in my thoughts, constantly influencing my life even though you were a weekend thing, or a three month thing, or a five month fling, or a year long relationship, or when I told you I loved you, and meant it. And still do. And imagine, had I been born one year earlier, we would’ve NEVER met. Ever. Coming from completely different spectrums of life, and with no love or anything else for one another. Just the effect one year has over your life.

Drama, Drama, Drama

tv one tree hill
I have just three words: "too much drama"!

But does anyone watch One Tree Hill?? Or Laguna Beach for that matter?? I’m so addicted to both of them…i know while Laguna was airing, me and my roommate would be on my bed at 9:58 every monday night waiting for it to come on, and THEN we would go out and party! Our Monday nights revolved around Laguna Beach. And now, Wednesday nights revolve around One Tree Hill because I’m obsessed with that show too. Every Wednesday at 8 pm on WB38 (in Orlando it’s WB18…but i know it’s WB “something 8″ here) All three of those shows are full of their own drama…I guess that’s why all of America watched them. But I’ve been hearing about this Nip/Tuck show yet I’ve only watched it once. My roomie loves it too…hmm..!! DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA!! I love it on TV, but hate it in real life!! Too much of it…grrr!!

Just Keep Swimming

tv ellen degeneres finding nemo
An Ellen Degeneres convert.

On the other hand, I didn’t like Ellen Degeneres for a long time. Not because of any big reason, just a matter of her comedy wasn’t my taste at the time. But when she did the voice of Dori in Finding Nemo, my opinion started changing a bit. Then her show came to NBC. I figured why not give it a chance right? It’s light, it’s funny, she’s so…normal. I love a host that can lose her train of thought mid sentence and laugh at herself while moving on. I like that she doesn’t laugh at her own jokes. I like that she doesn’t have an agenda. There is no political slant, no hot topics, and I have yet to see her verbally ambush a celebrity on camera due to their beliefs. She of course had something to say about Katrina, and is doing certain things for the victims…but because it’s her home, not to make herself look good, or to make a point.

Why I Love PVR's

tv media player smallville
It may take some time to convince the rest of the family that a PVR is just the ticket.

If you have used one you understand instantly, if not, well a lot of talking may not convince you that they are worth the love. I had wanted one for a long time. I’m a geek and I love geek toys. My wife was a little harder to convince, and like a lot of people, I don’t think she fully understood the concept and impact of a “digital VCR”. But once we got one she fell in love. Never again did she have to scrounge around for a blank tape to record “Smallville”, or “ER”. No more missed punch lines due to a toddler throwing food. And no more telling Caleb, “I’m sorry, Blues’s Clues are not on right now.” That is why DVR’s are so great, they release TV from the boardrooms and allow you to watch what you want, when you want. Television executives are scared of the power of millions of people to skip commercials, and they should be. The time is coming that no one will watch commercials unless they want to. Watch out for more product placement and more ads subtley placed as part of the plot of your favorite shows.

Losing It At Christmas

tv biggest loser workout
If you didn't get your Biggest Loser Workout DVD under the Christmas tree, it's still available at stores!

HotHubby and I bought a new digital camera on sunday. It’s really one of my christmas presents but legally more of a *COUGH* Tax Write Off *COUGH*… I am in love with it…. but am currently trying to figure out how to get HotHubby to classify the camera as a business expense and not my present as I’ve been DROOLING over new rollerblades for weeks and I could really use the exercise. Speaking of which, I’ve also preordered the Biggest Loser Workout DVD, I reallllly want it for Xmas.

Linz Winz!

tv amazing race family edition contestants
Congrats to Jocelyn!

Well Amazing Race fans, this season has come to an end and a big congrats goes out to Jocelyn for winning the pot! $160 right before Christmas never really hurt anyone, now she can go out and buy the really big Toblerone and have a merry ole hazlenut/honey time. Her magic selection was near perfect as she amassed a multitude of points and rose to the top. She was last reported running to the nearest Shoppers’ Drug Mart to pick up the previously mentioned Toblerone. In a side note, Stephanie Lapointe is eating a measely little tin-foiled wrapped chocolate Easter egg and is non-too-pleased with her lackluster performance, or the taste of stale chocolate for that matter.

The Chappelle Theory

tv oprah dave chappelle
Click through for a very strange theory about David Chappelle, with a cameo by Oprah.

If you believe this guy’s theory, you will be impressed with how long Chappelle ‘fought the power’ and resisted the threats made by the Crusaders. You will probably also be amazed to find out that Oprah Winfrey was willing to break into Chappelle’s house, with Louis Farrakhan’s thugs in tow no less, in order to really prove that she means business.

Turn Off The TV

tv the incredibles
TV has no limits, it seems.
My colleague from work told me about her dining experience last week. She and her family had sat down for a steak dinner at a local restaurant when a young couple and their two-year old sat down at a table nearby. The young mother proceeded to take a laptop out of her bag and place it on the table. She then reached back into her bag and pulled out a DVD which she inserted into the laptop. The mother then placed the laptop in front of her two-year old child as The Incredibles movie began to play. The young couple then began to discuss what to order from the menu. Can you believe it? We have become a society that feels the need to be constantly entertained, even to the point of throwing our children in front of a DVD player at a restaurant so that they will be quiet as we dine.

Global Spoils Survivor?

tv survivor danni boatwright
Hmmmm, put Danni Boatwright or Jeff Probst on the poster? Danni sounds like sound marketing to me.

I can’t remember exactly when this was, but some time around September/October when the latest season of Survivor was just getting underway, I was driving to Celest’s house and noticed a billboard for Global. Global is a channel on TV like ABC or what have you. So the ad is up, and it’s say the catch phrase “Global’s Got It” and it has a two of their shows listed: The Apprentice and Survivor. Well, next to the Apprentice it has Donald Trump and next to Survivor it has Danni Boatwright.

Sunday With Mom

tv desperate housewives cast
I love when mom cooks and I can watch TV!

On Sunday nights, I rest my heavy body on the longest couch in the television room catching brand new episodes of Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. My stomach is gargantuan. I am always full from the meals she prepares earlier.

Survivor Finale

tv survivor finale
Everything is leading to the Survivor finale!

Today I slept in late (rare for me) finished cleaning up party stuff, and hubby and I ripped up the rugs in the girls' rooms. The new carpet is going to be installed tomorrow, knock wood, and then we can assemble their furniture and start unpacking their boxes. We're off to finally see the new Harry Potter this afternoon, and after dinner we vegetate some more in front of the Survivor finale. Life is good!

Eat less, exercise more!

I don’t know how you can be involved in any kind of weight loss program or have any kind of weight issue and not have an opinion on this highly rated reality show. Matt was crowned “The Biggest Loser” and deservedly won $250,000 for committing to the lifestyle changes.

End Of Loss

tv the biggest loser jen
The finale was a must-see.

Today John and I started South Beach. I have been researching diets for a few weeks to find the best one for us. The first two weeks of SB is a lot like boot camp where you have to cut out just about everything enjoyable (read sugar/chocolate) and today was really hard but we are hanging in there. John needs to lose weight (even though no one believes me) and I need to drop quite a few. I’m glad I am not going it alone, he hasn’t complained very much (yet). Speaking of weight loss, I absolutely cannot WAIT for the season finale of the Biggest Loser. Probably the BEST! SHOW! EVER! I just hope I have the willpower to follow in their footsteps.

'Idol' Winner Ready For Her Close Up

tv american idol carrie underwood
Calling Mr. DeMille.

Carrie Underwood has become a household name since her appearance and win on American Idol, Season 4. I am a fan of the show and watched every episode of Season 4. I was rooting for Carrie all the way and contributed a fair amount of votes toward her win. The 22-year old from Checotah, Oklahoma is becoming very successful. Her first album, “Some Hearts” was released November 15th and she performed her first single, “Jesus Take The Wheel” at the CMA Awards the very same day. Her album includes two song which she co-wrote, “I Ain’t in Checotah Anymore,” and “Before He Cheats.” “Jesus Take the Wheel” made it into the top 25 after two weeks. The Country Music Industry is hoping that Underwood will reverse the 10% slide in sales this year.
