Finales & New Beginnings
Apart from this little piece of news, nothing much to report... I'm still computerless and hence am frequenting this cybercafe; I saw the first episode of Boston Legal today and quite liked it; I saw the final episodes ever of the longrunning Charmed and Will & Grace ... ummm.... what else? Terry and I are thinking of auditioning for more theatre stuff here in KL, so that should be exciting if and when it happens. And I've got this idea (read: goal) of staging an original musical dealing with life, friendships, relationships, drugs and death (no, it's not Rent) potentially entitled The Edge - which is, ironically enough, the name of the media corporation in question in my paragraph above... funny, that. We'll see if we stick to that name for the musical. If and when. I'll go with 'when'. When. *big smile*

Personal Brand Development
It just struck me that in the television series "Boston Legal" (of which I'm a fan BTW ... funnier than Law & Order, yet not as rediculous (yet) like Aly McBeal)... the named partner Denny Crane demonstrates the extremeties of "Personal Brand Development"...

Fall TV Predictions
I’m also looking forward to another season of Boston Legal, which finally found its voice this season. I really hope Parker Posey returns next season, as much as it bothered me that her character made me think of Lara Fynn Boyle, she added some real spark to the show. With Candice Bergen’s character mostly cleaning after Denny Crane’s messes, the show needs some strong women.

Less Internet, More TV
But that doesn't mean I can't write about smaller things, and there's one I wanted to mention today. Without internet, I've watched a little more TV in the last week. I saw Boston Legal last week, and I caught my first episode of Conviction on Tuesday.

Moving To Copenhagen
Helene sent me this is an email this week. It seems sort of low-brow to use a show as irreverent at Boston Legal to make an essential political point, but the writers of BL really get it right here. Go here to listen to an impressive bit of writing, thinking, and acting.

Review: Stargate
Again, Stargate isn’t too bad. It’s so bland--though one can amuse oneself by recognizing the Spielberg “homages,” there are plenty from Raiders of the Lost Ark--it just passes the time. Emmerich’s direction is okay. The film is very pretty and his shot composition is fine, uninteresting but fine. While the writing is incredibly stupid, since Devlin and Emmerich hadn’t yet hit the big time, it’s not offensive. I rented it because I’ve been watching Spader so much on “Boston Legal” I was curious and he’s fine.

Send Lawyers, Guns and Money
This week’s Boston Legal, which I fear I now have admitted to watching as a guilty pleasure, almost like watching a fiasco or a train wreck, had a moment when William Shatner’s character, Denny Craine, is caught at his own wedding in the coat check with a serving woman. The music played to punch this moment is Warren Zevon’s Lawyers, Guns and Money with his evocative music and voice. Wonderful moment that made my day.

End Of Boston Legal
Are you buying yet? Or is this starting to sound a lot like Fantasy Island? These were two out of the three subplots in this week’s Boston Legal, and though I love the show and can tolerate an occasional liberal canard now and then, I’m beginning to wonder whether we’re starting to see the beginning of the end of Boston Legal. A cat on life support?

State Of The Union
I'm sure a lot of people have commented on the State of the Union address. Bush said this, Bush said that. Bush is an idiot. Bush is a genius. Yeah, all of that stuff is great and all, but let's talk about what really matters: the fact that Scrubs wasn't on because of the damn State of the Union. Neither was Love Monkey or Boston Legal. Come on! Really, does every network have to broadcast exactly the same thing? Can't they bid for it like they bid for the Superbowl? Something should be done to make this a more effecient, one network kind of thing. Seriously, to find something other than the State of the Union I would have had to tune into the Al Jazera.

Law School
Sometimes, I think about going into law school. I see TV shows like Law and Order, Boston Legal, and The Practice, and I have to admit, I’m intrigued. I’m also a big fan of books by John Grisham, particularly The Firm and The Rainmaker.

On The iPod
On a more positive and less intelligent note, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. I got my iPod in Black, very pimp. I’m working on sending the first season of Boston Legal to it right now. I’ve already got 400 songs, and 35 photos on it. People I’ve dealt with in my life and would HATE to lose or forget. Even some of you that still read this everyday, but think you’ve evaporated from my life. Beware, you are everpresent in my thoughts, constantly influencing my life even though you were a weekend thing, or a three month thing, or a five month fling, or a year long relationship, or when I told you I loved you, and meant it. And still do. And imagine, had I been born one year earlier, we would’ve NEVER met. Ever. Coming from completely different spectrums of life, and with no love or anything else for one another. Just the effect one year has over your life.

Boston Legal
Boston Legal, one of my favorite series (what would you expect from a law student?) has recently season premiered. And was it good? Hell it wasn’t simply good – it was great. This series is humorous and always dead on. The man and television genious behind the series is David E. Kelly. You might have seen Boston Public? No? Ally Mcbeal, then? Thought so, and if you liked that wicked, humorous series, then you will love this one.

Politically Motivated Television
Popular television shows such as Boston Legal, Prison Break, Criminal Minds seem primary focus on crime, criminals and terrorists, and now their being bunched together on TV as the enemy against whom Americans can passionately unite at a time when fear, alienation and social fragmentation in political arena by this its increasingly threats are national spirit. Indeed, some television programs strongly implies that those who seriously threaten our security deserve no rights or liberties and need only to be stopped in their tracks and violently by the American heroes.

Chewing On Nails
Speaking along this same suicidal theme, I watched Boston Legal tonight, a new network dramady horrorfest starring Murphy Brown (oops! I mean Candice Bergen) and Captain Kirk (oops! William Shatner). Is James Spader ALLOWED to play the same character he played in the movie Secretary? Does anyone take issue with this? Does anyone give a shit that when scolded for sexually harassing his secretary, who has confided her concerns to Murphy Brown, he plants a diatribe on her about how he can’t change, so he’ll just have to replace her with someone who doesn’t mind how he is? Because high-powered male lawyers in BOSTON of all shitty suburban minicities are too set in their ways to make adjustments to their hideous characters. As his paralegal sits there nodding as though she might drop dead from boredom in an instant, are we supposed to get that she accepts this as a reasonable response? And THEN to top it off, she’s on her way out of the office and he says “Oh, and Sarah? Next time someone is doing something you don’t like, be direct. I know you’re up to it.” She smiles as if to say “Thanks, Coach!” and off she goes! WOW!!!!! You’re going to sexually harrass me, refuse to apologize or compromise your behavior, and then condescend to me before you send me packing? Watching this scene made me want to chew on nails and spit rapidfire rustballs through cannons.

Poll Result - Oustanding Actor In A Drama
After a slow start we had a big turnout this time around with 11 votes. For the first time we also had a decisive winner but more on that in a moment. Tied for fourth place, with no votes are Hank Azaria from Huff, and Ian McShane for Deadwood. In third place was James Spader for Boston Legal with one vote. In second was Kiefer Sutherland for 24 with three votes. However the clear winner among people who voted was Hugh Laurie for House, with seven votes and a whopping 63% of the voters.

Boston Legal
James and I have yet to find a single one of our friends who has discovered the absolutely fantastic Boston Legal - the inspired US legal drama currently showing over here on Living TV. Having seen one of the best ever episodes the other evening, I feel compelled to enthuse about it to you all because I truly believe it to be one of the finest exports from the US to arrive on our shores in recent years.

TV And Reality
i can’t understand how people are so stupid as to think what they see on tv has ANY bearing to reality. the possibility that jurors demand forensic evidence because of csi’s influence sounds crazy, but it’s a legit fear. these people think grey’s anatomy and er are really what hospitals are like. or la law, ally mcbeal, the practice, boston legal are really what being a lawyer is all about. SO MORONIC. ugh.

Reactions: Fall 2005 TV
Click through for more on next fall's TV line-up.Okay, the whole schedule is up and I'm kinda excited... much more excited than last year when the only thing that sounded exciting was Desperate Housewives. (I heard Lost was good but it didn't sound so exciting on paper.) Okay, Athens and The Partners sounded interesting from Fox but both were midseason offerings that never showed up... which happens sometimes with Fox.... and I hoped that Boston Legal
would recall the days when I enjoyed The Practice (which it happily has). This year has some intriguing additions.

William Shatner's Acting Awards
Who is Shatner on Boston Legal? He’s Denny Crane, a womanizing, aging lawyer who is bombastic, arrogant, and prone to speaking about himself in the third person. How little effort it must take for Shatner to perform this role, and how sad that the efforts of truly talented people, like Joss Whedon and everyone who worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or a marvelous show like Carnivale goes unnoticed and unrewarded by award shows, and Shatner gets an Emmy for being a character much like himself.

Boston Legal Update
Apparently Boston Legal has been renewed for a second season... but the catch is that the remaining 5 episodes for this season will not be aired until the fall... the final episodes will jump start into the second season, which means a total of 27 new episodes next season. I'm glad that Boston Legal was renewed but this seems like a stupid plan that will simply annoy and alienate the fans.

Boston Legal Season Over
Even though Boston Legal has been officially picked up for next season, it will give way to Grey's Anatomy with five episodes left unaired. These episodes will air next season which will make the total for next season's episodes 27. Grey's Anatomy has averaged about 5 million more viewers than Legal, and it seems that ABC wants this momentum to continue through the May Sweeps.

Boston Legal Any Way Possible, Please
I am so sleepy today. I stayed up a little late last night to watch the television series, The Practice. Right now in Japan, we are watching the final season of the series. Yesterday's episode had Allan Shore (James Spader) changing the locks on the firm and removing some financial records in preparations for a TRO hearing. William Shatner was brilliant as Danny Crane (or is it 'Krane'?). I am trying to come to some resolution with the series as I know it will end and then, start up again as 'Boston Legal'.
I sure hope SkyPerfect will pick up "Boston Legal" for us. If not, I'll have to order the DVD packs when they become available and at a cheap price.

What Is The Fate of 'Boston Legal'
The new ABC drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” which has proved a strong Sunday night partner for “Desperate Housewives,” will keep its time slot and cut short the season for “Boston Legal.”
“Grey’s Anatomy,” about first-year surgical interns at a Seattle hospital, debuted March 27 and improved on the ratings in the 10 p.m. ET Sunday time slot that had belonged to “Boston Legal.”
No word on where BOSTON LEGAL will land next season, though. ::sigh::
I’m hoping the extra episodes will help stop the on again/off again scheduling of Boston Legal that had me losing interest in it this year.
I don’t know if I ever really felt like the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES/BOSTON LEGAL pairing worked all that well.
