Why I Love PVR's
If you have used one you understand instantly, if not, well a lot of talking may not convince you that they are worth the love. I had wanted one for a long time. I’m a geek and I love geek toys. My wife was a little harder to convince, and like a lot of people, I don’t think she fully understood the concept and impact of a “digital VCR”. But once we got one she fell in love. Never again did she have to scrounge around for a blank tape to record “Smallville”, or “ER”. No more missed punch lines due to a toddler throwing food. And no more telling Caleb, “I’m sorry, Blues’s Clues are not on right now.” That is why DVR’s are so great, they release TV from the boardrooms and allow you to watch what you want, when you want. Television executives are scared of the power of millions of people to skip commercials, and they should be. The time is coming that no one will watch commercials unless they want to. Watch out for more product placement and more ads subtley placed as part of the plot of your favorite shows.

Smallville Soundtrack
If you have ever watched a single episode of Smallville, one of my favorite shows, then you’ve heard all the great music they use. Warner Bro. put out a soundtrack for Smallville February 25, 2003. It was called “The Talon Mix
” but also on the cover was “Volume 1″ so a short time later myself and others were waiting for Volume 2. Well they have finally set a date for release, November 8, 2005. It is called “The Metropolis Mix
.”

Soooo Bored
The “Smallville” thingy at the top of AIM promises that everything I’ve wanted tonight will happen…does this mean Jennifer Connelly is coming to my house with a large check (both in montary and physical size)?

Monsters and Others
Perhaps you all have seen the proliferation of monster/alien shows on television, a noticable trend away from the superhero amidst us, to the alien amidst us, which is not unique but going through revival. From Buffy and Smallville to the 4400 and Alien Invasion. The idea of the monster and the alien are related in many ways. In Beowulf, the decendant of Cain is a foul creature who can eat you whole and rip you apart. In The Invasion of the Body Snatchers you are “eaten whole,” likewise in The Thing, but the attack is subtle, infiltrative, and creepy (with lots ooze and gell), unlike the War of the Worlds where the attack has marked borders. Either way, the alien is a monster. In both Beowulf and Invasion, the monster or the alien is NOT US.

Even Smallville
I’m a superhero fan like many of you out there. I’m not quite as hardcore as some, in fact…. I’m not hardcore at all when it comes to comic book anything. My personal fav has always been Superman, and yeah…. I even like Smallville.

Alfred Gough And Miles Millar
As something of an aside, I recently learned that Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the two men responsible for Smallville, wrote the screenplay for Spider-Man 2. Rock on, d00ds. They also penned the soon-to-be-released Herbie: Fully Reloaded. Not so cool, d00ds.

Rubber Meets The Road
Last night Trojan
ads aired in prime time television for the first time, and, by "Trojan", I assume this story isn't referring to gladiators from Troy. The ads ran on NBC and the WB Network, the latter of which aired in, get this, "Smallville". No, really.

Condom Ads
Two television networks are breaking new ground tonight (June 1) and airing condom ads during prime time. A spokesman for the American Family Association says the networks are violating the public trust. NBC will be airing the Trojan condom ad during the show Law and Order after 10:00 Eastern time tonight. The WB television network will air the ad during the program Smallville after 9:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Smallville Gets Deep
Read the whole thing. At first I assumed that Smallville would be uninteresting as the general story is well-known to comic book lovers of my time-period. I never liked Superboy that much. How could the young Clark Kent be more interesting than Superman himself? I began watching to keep Adrian company. However the story started to grow on me and now I’m very much caught up in it. I recently realized that I’m not alone. At a party the other day I happened to be talking to two thirtyish young women, and it turned out that both were unashamedly Smallville fans....

Review: Smallville Season 4
You know how it feels when you come to the realisation that a series you used be fanatical about starts to suck? It is with a sinking feeling that i realise this when i watched the season finale of Smallville yesterday, a sense of sadness and disappointment. Its the feeling you get when you realise that the Simpsons just ain’t that funny anymore and you defect to South Park. Its that sense of going to the next phase of maturity when you suddenly realise that you no longer like to watch cartoons anymore, and what used to be cool is now corny....

Smallville Season 4 Finale
Overall, however, being a fan of Smallville (and Superman, obviously), I like the season finale. Finally Lex does turn into evil. Clark united all three stone artifacts and received a new crystal which brought him to Arctic (Fortress of Solitude anyone?). Lana’s chopper, courtesy of Lex, was hit by a meteor and went down spinning. Lana survived and found a huge, black and crystalline meteor stone with the same shape as the crystal Clark had. The stone opened. Lois looked down from a hill and see the result of meteor shower. Chloe and Lex were...

Smallville Fan, And Here's Why
It's hard not to like a superhero.well, i’ll tell you why go to smallville. like i said, we watched three episodes on sunday. i only intended on watching one, but i couldn’t stop after seeing the first. it reminded me of why i love the show. first, i love superman; i think everyone does in some way. in the context of smallville its always been fun to watch the superhero in a more humbling setting and what can be more humbling than high school? second, michael rosenbaum is awesome. and third, the new dynamic introduced this season where chloe knows clark’s...

"Smallville" Goes Down the Tubes
I'm generally not a fan of teenage dramas, but having caught up with all the episodes of "Lost", "24" and "CSI", and feeling badly in need of some distraction that didn't require either thought or coming home reeking of cigarettes, I decided to give "Smallville" a try; the way I saw it, at the very least it would be interesting to see if something worthwhile could be done with a superhero who's always had the curious problem of being so powerful and level-headed that there's just never been that much to do...

Fans Increasingly Download Pirated TV Shows
Not a top ranking Smallville probably wants. The 10 most popular pirated TV downloads worldwide are: “24,” “Stargate Atlantis,” “The Simpsons,” “Enterprise,” “Stargate SG-1,” “The O.C.,” “Smallville,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Battlestar Galactica,” and “Lost,” according to a February survey by Envisional, cited in the report. Much of the downloading occurs overseas, especially in the English-language United Kingdom, where shows aren’t usually broadcast until months after they’ve aired in the United States.

Review Smallville and Win
Smallville returns tonight after a decent hiatus and we want you to review it for us. We'll handle the cool screen captures but you provide the words. The best review will win $100 via PayPal. It should be an exciting return to form tonight with Lex being split in two by a kryptonite explosion. And we all can guess at how evil his evil side will be. Make the review concise but add thoughtful commentary too. Tell us how this impacts the series as a whole and how it ranks compared to past episodes. Length should be 250-800 words and the deadline for...

Lois' Character
Quick blurb on Smallville. I was shaking my head over the last episode, but I suppose it builds Lois' character and give us a feeling of who she is and where she comes from. I did, as I always do, enjoy the jousting between Clark and Lois. I am anxious to see how they end this season.

A Fan With Limits

Harvard Has Smallville Special Interest Group
The national media may have made a joke out of the idea that Harvard students need to have planned fun, but it’s true. If a HRSFen is interested in something—say Smallville, or making funny commentary as bad movies are played (an activity known as Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K), or board games—he or she can propose the formation of a SIG (Special Interest Group). SIGs gather weekly to engage in their special-interest activities, and if they grow, they grow. And if no one comes, they die.
